Jill Blakey is an Abstract Artist based in Buckingham, UK. She creates vibrant, one of a kind, original artwork, working predominantly with acrylic and spray paint on stretched canvases.
As a life-long Maths geek, with a Mathematics degree from St Andrews University and many years as a secondary school Maths Teacher, Jill has always enjoyed the objectivity of numbers and algebra. She love the satisfaction of solving a problem and getting the answer “right”. This, as well as many years of experimenting with different creative mediums, has brought Jill to Abstract Art.
It can’t be wrong! There are no rules.
At first, Jill would ask people what they liked and didn’t like about her paintings, as if trying to find the winning formula for creating a painting that people love, but the answer was always simple: it just made them feel good when they looked at it. This was a revelation for Jill.
Jill Blakey is an intuitive artist. She paints with no plan, allowing her intuition to take over. Jill’s paintings are often a real insight into her subconscious, with the painting inspiration being obvious afterwards despite never consciously having an “inspiration” for a piece. A lot of Jill’s work has an urban undertone which is likely to be inspired by the 10 years Jill lived in South London.
Having moved from London to Buckinghamshire with her young family just before Lockdown 2020, Jill has a passion for interior design inspired predominantly by her fabulous Antique Dealer parents. Jill loves to spend time making paintings that make people feel happy and that make beautiful, colourful focal points in a room.
